Análisis de eficiencia técnica en el sector manufacturero chileno: una aproximación con fronteras estocásticas de producción
Abstract
This research analyzes the technical efficiency of manufacturing Chilean industry using the parametric methodology of stochastic frontier production functions in order to propose a complementary approach to the classical analysis of the productivity. To conduct this study a panel data was built with information provided by the Annual Industrial National Survey (ENIA, acronym in Spanish) which considers data for 96 productive groups defined according to the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC) (CIIU, acronym in Spanish) for the period 2000 - 2008. The main results indicate that: (1) the technical efficiency significantly decreases during the mentioned period proving with this the general hypothesis of the work, (2) the industry, during the assessment period, reaches an annual average of technical efficiency of 48.3%, (3) the labor is the productive factor of greater elasticity in the industry followed by the capital, energy and services.
