Reflections on the use of microfinance institutions as instruments for dispersing public credit to microbusiness
Abstract
In recent times, people that have been excluded from traditional financial services have seen microfinance as a tool to obtain financial resources. However, microfinance institutions have not been able to keep themselves in the market, due to the nature of their target population; based on that situation, government intervention in the credit market is required. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of government intervention in the microcredit markets in its different forms, such as financing, sustainability, efficiency, support, scope, regulations as well as credit democratization.
